FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DIGICEL EMPLOYEES VOLUNTEER TO ‘SAVE A LIFE’ THROUGH BLOOD DONATION
Over 100 employees recently registered to donate blood to the Jamaica Transfusion Blood Services.
Responding to the call from the Jamaica Transfusion Blood Services, Digicel employees recently volunteered to ‘save a life’ by donating blood to the National Transfusion Blood Services. The Blood Bank in Jamaica has an ongoing campaign to urge members of the public to donate blood to assist with regularly scheduled transfusions and emergencies.
According to the Jamaica Transfusion Blood Services, the current blood collection averages 25,000 units, meeting only half of the national demand. The Blood Bank is therefore encouraging individuals and corporate Jamaica to continue to volunteer to donate blood which enables them to reach their national demand of 50,000 annually and ultimately to assist patients in need of blood.
Mark Linehan, CEO of Digicel, Jamaica, who also gave blood, commented that Digicel employees have always been very supportive and generous. He thanked employees for supporting this very important initiative.
“The blood collected will be used to replenish existing stocks at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital and other hospitals and clinics in Jamaica”, added Mark Linehan. We will continue to sensitize our employees about this drive and encourage them to support the blood bank, which can potentially save their life or that of a loved one.”
The National Blood Transfusion Services is a government organization that has been responsible for the provision of all blood and blood products to hospitals in Jamaica since December 1948. Its primary function is the processing of all the blood collected at a various collection centers and mobile sessions; and cross-matching of blood groups to meet the transfusion needs of patients.
